Fish…and…Eating by Debbie Mascot

Note the title: Fish…and…Eating (not “Eating Fish”, but “Fish…and…Eating”)

Fish.

One of my Big Boy fish (the 3-year-olds) was floating this morning. I have two left from the three orange fish that came in that box. When their brother died, I bought a new box with four tiny gray fish in it. Three of the gray fish died within a couple of weeks and I didn’t care much because really I just wanted a happy new home for the Big Boys.

This morning the smaller of the two Big Boys was floating. I got upset and made a coworker deal with it. I couldn’t. She dipped in a spoon and he moved his tail. So she couldn’t either. Now he’s swimming normally. But his Big Boy brother keeps poking at him, so I think he’s not long for this world.

I hate how much I love my stupid fish. They make me so happy and yet so sad when they go. Everyone is amazed that I even still have them, but I can’t imagine not having them. I’ve already picked out a place at home for them while I’m on maternity leave. I want Signa to meet them, but maybe the Big Boys will be gone by then. So sad… but on to the next topic…

Eating.

Eating was never a strong point. Food was the farthest from my mind and I was one of those idiots that would forget to eat. Well, not any flippin’ more. Ever since I was told to watch my weight (after the You-Gained-Nine-Pounds-In-Four-Weeks incident), I can think of nothing but food. If I could be eating 24-hours a day, I would. I know it’s not because I’m hungry, either. I know it’s because the focus of my life has been put on food. Someone says, “Don’t think about pink giraffes,” and what’s the first thing you do???

So if I could, here’s what I would do today.
1. Eat 4 bowls of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal for breakfast.
2. Have half of a watermelon for dessert.
3. Eat cheese-flavored popcorn cakes in the car on the way to work.
4. Stop by the work deli for a giant root beer and a sausage calzone.
5. After getting over the fish trauma, finish the calzone and nurse the rootbeer, while downing chocolate-covered raisin after chocolate-covered raisin.
6. Go for an early lunch of a lasagna plate, complete with two pieces of garlic cheese bread and a salad. Not a side-salad- a salad.
7. Have a piece of banana bread for dessert. And some lemon meringue pie.
8. Go back to the deli in the afternoon for another root beer and some candy. Maybe a Snicker’s bar and a Twix. Oh, but look at the delicious brownies. I’ll have one of those, too.
9. Leave early so that I can get home to make dinner. Hot dogs, the other half of the watermelon, some salad with cheese on it, kettle corn (and let’s add more sugar to it), more Cinnamon Toast Crunch and then some cake left over from the shower for dessert. And when it’s time to go relax, more kettle corn and some chocolate chips. Maybe some pound cake. Or all of the pound cake.

Sigh. What a wonderful day it would be…
