Star Wars, Episode II by Debbie Mascot
We took the unborn Signa to her first movie last night. Star Wars. She liked the action parts, but thought there was too much story. Oh, wait. That was me. Actually, I generally like story in my movies, but for Star Wars, we kinda already know the gyst of it, don't we? Without even seeing either of the 2 recent movies. Anakin has twins with Amidala and names them Luke and Leia. There is a big war and Anakin eventually becomes a bad guy and the babies are raised by his brother. The 2 kids eventually destroy all the bad guys and they have a big dancing party with Ewoks.
Not a difficult plot line to follow, so why tell us a story? Actually, maybe it wasn't the story that bugged me, but more the fact that when you tell stories, you do close-ups. And I was more than slightly distracted in all the close-ups with Anakin. I badly wanted scissors to cut that crappy braid out of the back of his head.
We see Star Wars movies too see, well, big giant wars in the stars, complete with warp speed chases, whizzing laser beams and lots of explosions. And light saber fights, of course. Not to see some snot-nosed teenager complain about how he's all grown up and no one cares. I can see that by watching reruns of Who's the Boss on Nick at Night.
But it was fun to go to the movies and feel Siga react to the noises and positions. Also, it's not like we can NOT see a Star Wars movie; it's just something we do. It was an entertaining movie, but just not the best I've ever seen. And there weren't any Ewoks in it, either.
