Forgetting and Remembering

I still forget the thing I was supposed to remember. But I did find an old note, which reads:
"Pineapple under the sea"

Why would I jot that down in super quick scrawl? Why? Because we have a palm tree in our front yard. Clearly.

Signa looked at it one day a few months ago and said, "Pineapple under the sea!" Spongebob has palm trees everywhere.

We thought it was funny anyway. Yes, we know we watch TV.

-----

Anyway, other fun moments have been at the dinner table. Signa was telling me about dragonflies at the park. She waved her arms way to the back and then brought them all the way forward (at the dinner table) and clapped her hands together. "Dragonfwy CLAPS it's wings!" Sort of right. It rhymes anyway.

Also, when clearing the table, Marc asked me if the nearly empty bottle of barbecue sauce was dead, since I'd been banging on it and hitting it to get enough out all through dinner. I answered, "Yes" and Signa pipes in with, "Barbecue sauce is dead. Ahhhhhh," as if it's the saddest thing she's ever hear in her whole entire life.

-----

Oh, and then sometime last week, Marc was looking at some art websites or something and Signa came to "help". He got to a picture of the Mona Lisa and Signa yells, "A monkey drew it!! A monkey drew it!" over and over again very excited.

Huh? Leonardo da Vinci is so NOT a monkey! We went over it with her while laughing at her and then I realized that in her Baby Einstein DVD a freaking monkey puppet paints a cartoon version of the Mona Lisa.

So, yes, Signa, a monkey did draw it. I apologize.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

It's Monday. Lunch time. I'm eating a sandwich and trying to cram in an update at the same time.

First, Happy Belated Birthday, Dad! It was Dad's birthday on Thursday and I finally had time to call at about 8pm. It was so nice to talk to him. More than nice. I don't talk to him much, because, frankly, hearing his voice makes me miss him SOOOOO much. I always miss him, but it's a big kind of jump in the car right now and drive 7 hours kind of miss when I talk to him on the phone. But soon I'll be there to see him again. Shooting for May, but most likely June.

Hmmmm. So some Signa things quickly. She is still on her Star Wars kick. A few weeks ago, the Walmarts all had big Star Wars things going on. Ours had a tent outside with the music playing and all the toys for sale inside. Signa went twice. Once with me because we were going to Walmart forsomething and noticed it and once with Marc directly on purpose to see the Star Wars Tent.

Now when we go to Walmart (which is often- cheapest diapers and cat litter to be found), Signa frantically squawks from the backseat, "Star Wars tent is GONE! Some one took it AWAY! I miss it." She says it every single time we visit Walmart.

Every

Single

Time.

This morning, Signa was watching coming attractions on the computer with Marc. Here is what I heard:

"I wike Darf Vader. He's my berry best fwiend."

"Hey! Oh my goodness! It's Willy Wonka! Would you look at that! Wow! A bunch of chocolate and squirrels for everyone!"

She has a scary villain for her very best friend and is excited over chocolate and squirrels. Yep. She's our girl.

---

This weekend I went to the Annual Girls' Beach Weekend. Beth and I left Saturday morning and got there in time for lunch. Gail (who's family owns the house) was nice enough to include Beth and I again. If I try to list everyone there, I will mess it up, but Gail, Karen, Diane, Kim, Darlene, Liz, Lolani, Gay and Jorra. Who else? There were others. I am not good with this, so nevermind. Anyway, we had a great time, just relaxing and playing Apples to Apples and making the Happiest Baby in the World™ laugh. Beth and I took a long walk and brought home shells and sand dollars for the kids. Miracle Mary, the 9-year-old girl walking in front of us, kept finding all the perfect sand dollars. After overhearing Beth say that maybe we'd be able to find some if she weren't hogging them all, she forked over two for us. Brat. Not really, but it's fun to blame it on her.

I missed Signa desperately. I wish she'd come with me. She would have had so much fun. Of course, no one else would have, but still...

Oh My Goodness

In an effort to clean up my language, I've adopted "clean" sayings like, "Holy cow" and "Geez Louise". It's so cute to hear Signa say, "Oh my goodness, would you look at that!" when something like a talking dog comes on TV.

Pictures and Weekend Update

Weekend Update

First thing's first. March pictures are officially up.

www.mascotmanor.org/Pictures/mar05/index.htm

Now for the weekend update: I cleaned all day on Saturday in preparation for the Pampered Chef party I hosted Saturday night. Marc took Signa all day, so that I could. The party was fun and a success (I got $115 of free stuff- you should totally host one of these if you know someone).

At 7:30 on Saturday night, as the party was ending, I got to BABYSIT A 7-WEEK-OLD BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL!!! My coworker and his wife went to dinner with her family and we got to keep the beauty. She was so alert and happy, except that I accidentally starved her for a few minutes before I figured out she was HUNGRY AGAIN. I guess I got used to Signa, who didn't take SEVEN OUNCES of food EVER. Baby "Menee," though, was 10lbs, 12oz at birth, so she's a much healthier eater. Once I figured out why she was crying, things went smoothly. She also didn't care to be held all the time. She liked to just be lying there watching Signa. Being with her, made me realize how SIGNA Signa has always been. And how RENEE Renee will always be. So funny, as before Signa came, I really didn't think babies had personality.

Signa thinks Renee is her "baby sister" and wants to kiss her and love on her. We made her keep her distance, though. All in all, I totally loved babysitting and can't wait to do it again! Especially now that I understand the food thing better.

Sunday was a lazy day. We went to the park and then napped and then just cleaned around the house and played lazy games and toys.

Super Smart, but not so good at math or biology

Signa isn't very good at math. You see, she used to go to bed between 8 and 9pm and get up between 6 and 7am. We changed the clocks (Spring Forward) and suddenly she's going to bed between 10 and midnight and getting up around 9am.

This makes no sense. Spring Forward = +1 not +2 or 3. Weirdo.

That aside, she is super smart when it comes to where things come from. She now knows that movies come in the mail (we use Netflix) and tells us when she wants something to come in the mail. "Fat Abert coming in the mail." Yes, she wants to see the Fat Albert movie. Ick. "Oswald coming in the mail." She states it, like it's a fact. Which it is as soon as Marc runs to the computer to tell it what to send next. So cute.

At swimming lessons last night, she saw her teacher in the pool when we got there. She got all excited. "Teacher! My teacher! Hi, teacher! Hi! Signa's back! Hi, teacher!" waving the whole time. When class started, there was a little boy named Brandon. "Hi, I'm Signa. Hi, Signa! Hi! HI!" Brandon didn't say hi, but his mommy did. "He's my baby brother," Signa informed her. Bet that mommy was surprised to hear that. As was I.

Swimming and Birthday Parties

Swim lessons were so fun. The pool is indoors, but it would have been nice to have it warmer. Signa shivered the whole time. It also didn't help that they said we had to arrive 15 minutes early to sign paperwork, but that only took me 24 seconds. Then Signa had to WAIT and WATCH OTHER KIDS SWIM.

Finally it was our turn and she looked so cute and had so much fun. She never stopped her Grin of Ecstasy and you could often hear her Screams of Glee. She also never really followed any directions except the one where she can get out of the pool to get the rubber duck and then she was supposed to get back in and turn around and grab the side. But she grabbed TWO rubber ducks and jumped in. Why would you turn around and grab the side when: a) you were holding two ducks and; b) Momma was right there to hold you.

But she had fun and looked cute. That's what's important.

The rest of the week just had me with a stomach ache and exercising a lot. Then Saturday "Our Kids" (two of the neighborhood kids) had their 16 and 17 y/o birthday bash. We crashed it for awhile watching the teenagers. Signa thought they were all very neat, but what she really likes are the dogs. They have an old Daisy dog that is the sweetest girl. She mostly jjust lays there, but she's so gentle and loving. On Saturday Signa was loving and climbing all over her and kept saying, "Momma, I think she died. Daisy died. Daisy dead. I miss her."

She and Marc found a dead bird in the yard last week and Marc told her it was dead. "Dead mean, Daddy?" So he told her that dead was when you didn't move any more. So now all things that lie still are inherently dead.

Sunday we went to Andrew's third birthday party. They had a Spongebob party, complete with a jumping thing. Signa went in with Mom a bunch. She'd go and hold her little hand out to Mom. "Gramma, Gramma! Jumping thing! PWEEEEEEEZE?" Of course Gramma went. Wouldn't you?
