March of the Snails- WARNING- POLITICS AHEAD
Again, WARNING! POLITICS AHEAD! I won't debate with anyone and I don't care if you agree with me or not.
So, March of the Snails. No, I'm not talking about FEMA. This is what Signa said at the park when she was playing with the snails. She is really, really wanting to see March of the Penguins. Can you tell?
Back to FEMA. I am so sorry my children (ooooo... feels weird to say, "children"!) won't know the New Orleans I know. Not that I've ever been there, but it's in my head as one of the most wondrous places ever. Full of parties and playing and joy. Now it's full of water.
Our President says it's not time to play the Blame Game, but it's hardly a game when there is supposed to be only one team. FEMA stands for "Federal Emergency Management Agency". Just from the name alone, we know that it is their job to… um… federally manage emergencies? They did not. Who is FEMA's leader? Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown's prior job was to take care of a horse association. Not that that was an easy job, I'm sure, but really not too much to do with: 1) federal. 2) emergency. 3) management. 4) agency. So who is his boss? Homeland Security. Who is their boss? Mr. President.
I do believe that the local government and state government played a role in bad management. Like, I still can't find any good reason for that picture of the school busses underwater. Why weren't they used? I don't know, but this isn't the entirety of the governor and mayor jobs. The governor's name isn't "SEMA" (State Emergency Management Agency) and the Mayor's name isn't "CEMA" (City Emergency Management Agency). FEMA has the name. They should have been filing their nails at the "old-hat" ness of this. Oh. Maybe they were.
From the FEMA website, I found this: "As it has for more than 20 years, FEMA's mission remains: to lead America to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from disasters with a vision of 'A Nation Prepared.'"
It's in my nature to take things like this apart and analyze every word, but I can't. It's just too easy.
If this had been a terrorist attack, would we have responded so poorly? If everyone hadn't been on vacation, would we have responded so poorly? But the Blame Game? Federal Emergency Management Agency wins. The people of the Gulf States America lose.
