Practice Trick-or-Treating

Wednesday I had my dr appt. I got to hear New Kid's heartbeat and I am in love with this freaking creature even though it makes me hideously sick. Two beats and I'm over all the sickness. Maybe I should rent a doppler for all the rest of the time.

I'm doing fine, but still losing weight. They give me until next visit to start gaining and then they put me on a special diet and make me drink those nasty shake things.

Last night we found out last minute that it was our town's downtown trick-or-treat night. So we found my collectible 1983 Ewok plastic costume from the garage and threw it on Signa. The crotch was halfway between her feet and her knees and she really did look a lot like an Ewok when she put the mask on.

We drove downtown with a couple of "our" kids from the neighborhood (Kyle and Michael) and found it to be wall to wall people. Couldn't even move and had to stand in line forever just for her to get candy. But people watching was fun for Signa and we made sure that she knew that on Monday she gets to not only wear her King Tut costume (which, by the way, there were NO KIDS wearing even in the people parking lot that was downtown), but she also won't have to stand in line.

In her practicing, she says, "Trick or treating!" Then you give her candy and she says, "Thank you."

And waits. Because if you don't say, "You're helcome" you are getting a lecture. Trust me.

Signaisms

I've been neglecting writing stuff down, but here are a couple things I'm remembering:

• Upon waking up in the morning on Saturday, Signa smiles a wondrous
loving smile at me and says, "Momma, do you remember me?"
• She messes up two words consistently: "Malwart" and "Sedert."
That's "Walmart" and "Dessert" to us laymen.
• Her Teen Titan figurines are the only "people" allowed to shop at
the beloved Barbie Pet Shop. It's weird to see Robin buying tiny
mice and hear him say (in Signa's tiny voice), "Ahhhh, they're so
CUTE."

That's all I can remember for now. I'll write more down tonight as I remember them.

We joined a homeschool preschool art class that meets every other week. We went two weeks ago and had a great time. This week's art class is at our house, so it should be a lot of fun. It's been hard with Signa as she sees two schools when they go to the park and all she sees are a lot of kids playing, so she says she really wants to go to school. What she really wants are a lot of kids around all the time, so we are going to try to get her out more in structured playgroups with kids that won't be running off to school. The homeschool group we belong to has park groups every day, but they are all at 1pm, which is Signa's nap time. We hope to join with more preschoolers and make our own park times. I'm going to bring it up at art class this week. See if maybe they want to do park play one week and art class the next. I'd have to give up the car every Thursday, but I think, for the most part, it would be okay.

What else? We are working on Signa's King Tut costume. So far, we have pretty much nothing. A pillowcase and Marc found a cool tree skirt that we can use as a neck thing. Nothing for her head, though. Good thing Marc is an artist.

What other cute things has my girl done? Pretty much everything. She is just amazing to me how smart and cute and smiley she is. She's turned into a very good girl. Never thought I'd be able to say that after the years of her NOT SLEEPING AT ALL.

For New Kid: Well, THAT Didn’t Work

Hey, New Kid. Last words I wrote contained, "I'll try to be better about updating." Right. That worked wonders. I'm so sorry. I'm still sick, so it's not over, but it's less and less each day. Well, except for now I have a cold, too. I'm so sorry. You aren't physically suffering because of me (I hope), but mentally, you may need therapy one day when you see that by the 12th week of my pregnancy with your sister, I'd already written 30 pages. You? 7. 7 freaking pages. I'm so sorry.

It's just tough to be as cheerful and writey when I'm not sure if the chicken soup is going to stay down or now. Again, though, I am going to try to be better.

I have a pouch now where you are sitting. It still could be mistaken for fat, but it's not; it's your spot. I wear some maternity clothes now, mostly because they make it look like it's not fat, but baby.

I'm going to do some shopping in the next few weeks, as I do need some new maternity clothes. A lot of the stuff I saved from Signa is shorts and sleeveless. I'll need wintery clothes with you. I'm thinking "pantsuits" because the thought of pantyhose daily is icky.

Oh, and everyone says you are a boy.

Ralph's World

Saturday was Ralph's World. Ralph’s World is a kid’s rock band from Chicago. We found a DVD at the library and Signa fell in love. She knows all the songs on it and even a lot of the dances. When thinking of birthday presents, we looked into who this Ralph was and if we could go see him. That’s when we found out he was from Chicago AND that he was touring to San Francisco. And we got tickets.

Signa had dance class in the morning and then we had to leave at 1:15 to catch the train into San Francisco and be there by 3pm. You know what that means, right? No nap. But she was a trooper. We hoped she'd nap on BART (the train) but she was too excited. We got to the City and had to walk only 2 blocks through the Mission to get to the theater.

Wow. It was so awesome. A tiny bar by night with a stage. By day, a great fun place for a kid's show. Just tiny and quaint and perfect for getting that "small show" experience, but with great sound. It was awesome. When we walked in, Ralph himself (with long hair now) was setting up the cds for sale. Signa just stood there with her jaw open. "That's Ralph!"

We got our seats and talked to the people around us. Ralph evidently tours here a bit. We are now on the mailing list and will see his every show.

They started playing and Signa started fading. I think she lasted the first 3 songs and then she was out. Sound asleep on Marc. We were laughing, but totally bummed, as she was missing an awesome show.

Anyway, she redeemed herself, when she woke up as soon as she heard Ralph say, "All the kids, come up here on stage with us! Plenty of room." She bolted off Marc's lap from a dead sleep and tried to run up there on her own. I took her up and she stood right in front of the bass player (between him and his microphone) and did the songs and dances. She didn't even seem like she noticed the audience or anything. She was just so into it.

They then did a song from the DVD that she loves and she did all the dance moves and sang all the words. I heard all the parents around me on the floor in front of the stage saying, "Oh my God! Look at that little girl! She is like part of the band!" When it was over and I was helping her off the stage, I had about 40 parents coming up to me commenting on her. It was such a riot to watch that girl up there on stage singing and dancing with no qualms at all.

New Kid's Journal Entry

Bad, Bad Momma
Hey, New Kid. I am so sorry. It’s been almost a month since I’ve updated you on, well, you. Here is what has happened:

• Sickness
• More Sickness
• Tiredness
• More Tiredness
• Doctor’s Appointment
• Expensive Medicine
• Sickness Pretty Much Gone without Taking Medicine

To give more detail, I had really, super horrible morning sickness. Only it was all day and all night. I lost weight and threw up my thyroid meds, so I got a fancy prescription for upping the thyroid doseage and a drug for chemotherapy patients to calm the nausea. Oh, and we had an ultrasound. Here you are:

I asked the doctor what you were and she said she can’t tell yet if you are a boy or a girl. I said, “No. I mean what IS IT?” You don’t look much like a baby yet.

Anyway, I filled the chemo meds and it cost $75.00 as they are “non-formulary”. I don’t know what that means any more than I knew what I was looking at on that ultrasound machine. But now I know that “non-formulary” means super expensive.

So I took my non-formulary chemo meds all day (“as needed”) Thursday and they didn’t do much at all. But Friday morning I woke up sans morning sickness! I thought maybe the medicine just took a long time to work, but I haven’t taken it since and I still don’t have much morning sickness at all. So I think it’s just over. Stupid non-formulary crap.

I still am not showing, although I’m fatter now than I was when I was 10 weeks pregnant with your sister. I also lost some weight this time, so that could be why, too. I expect my belly to just pop out one day like it did with Signa. I’ll be ready when that happens.

I’ll try to be better about updating. I feel awful that I wasn’t on top of your journals.

Signa's Happy Darth Vader Birthday

The party was here: www.partipalooza.com. We made nametags that have everyone's names and then "Darth So-and-So" and goodie bags. Our wonderful neighbor, Kathy, does cake decorating and made the Darth Vader cake as her gift to Signa. It was so cool. That was all we had to do- oh, we brought tablecloths and plates and napkins and forks.

The goodie bags had these Darth Vader masks to go in them, but I was too lazy to put them together so I was going to just let the parents deal with it. But the staff decorated the big table with them (more on that later) and did such a great job. It was awesome.

Anyway, first they all have a "safety meeting" where they hear about how to be safe. Then they take off their shoes and put them in the cubbies and then go play! They had basketball, air hockey, a giant slide, a jumping thing with a smaller slide, and then a giant obstacle course. All of the slides/jumping things/obstacle courses are blow up things and so safe for all the ages we had. Then there is the karaoke room with a stage, microphones, karaoke machine with kids' songs, and tons of costumes and hats, etc. There is also a train table and little tiny kid toys in there.

Signa ran from one thing to the other for an hour and a half with the biggest smile I've ever seen on a kid. She was just so very happy to have ALL her friends and family there.

After playtime, they line up and go to the cake room. It's a giant long table and at the head of it is a big thrown for the birthday kid. They had cake and ice cream and juice boxes and then they did presents.

We had so many kids there and I want to make sure I write it all down so that we always remember.

Cousins who came included: Austin, Melanie, Ryan and Andrew, Conner and Deborah, and Megan and Rachael. Todd missed football to bring Austin, so now we know for sure he loves us. Paul drove Conner and Deborah all the way from Folsom- Cindy was celebrating her own birthday with her Dad in Minnesota. Melanie came with Danny and Rebecca and I think if anyone had as much fun as Signa, it was Melanie. She seemed to really love having all the kids around. Ryan and Andrew were seen on the giant slide much of the morning. I think they enjoyed themselves, too. I know Andrew enjoyed the cake! Megan and Rachael are the newest cousins to the mix and I can't wait to spend more time with them. Signa just adores both of them and I so love how they play with her.

The kids we know from the park play dates were Isabelle, Rosalyn, Caden and Gagan. We did find out that Signa, Rosalyn and Gagan are all going to be big siblings at the same time. So we'll have a great set of play friends for BOTH our babies. Kids from the neighborhood were Isaac and Trevor. Trevor had been to Parti Palooza many times, so he showed everyone the ropes. I think I saw him hanging out with Tony and Conner. It's just so cute to see the different kids from different parts of our lives interacting.

Other friend children who came were Tony and Allison, all the way from Novato. They had another party to go to in the afternoon, so I was just super happy Becky and Bruce made the trek. Baby Renee came, too. She lives up the street, but likely didn't have much fun since she's only 7 months old. She was a trouper, though, and even crawled for me! Maddie and Olivia were also there having some fun. They came over afterwards, as Marc and Monty had shopping to do. The three girls ran wild in our livingroom. Thankfully Gramma also came over to help watch everyone.

Signa got a gazillion wonderful amazing gifts. Just a gazillion and we love each and every one of them.

I am just glad we did it, as this will be her last party where she's alone. I start to get upset that so much will change, but then I remember me and that I don'/t even remember before Todd came to us, so she won't really miss it. Maybe it's just me who will!!!
