Trick or Treat!

It's cool that Walmart hires the elderly. Except when they are Crotchety Old Witches (COWTM) like the one that works in
the fabric area of our Walmart. Then it's not so cool.

We went to Walmart to try to get some material to make the King Tut headpiece for Signa's Halloween costume. Striped material, gold material, gold belt-like strands. You know, the usual. While putting my stuff on the counter for cutting, COWTM sighed. Repeatedly. Marc and Signa were looking at other things and came up at about the 9th sigh. Marc JOKED that we should just try to put the costume together there. COWTM said with more sighing, "Why not? Every one else does." Then she went on to say that she's had to (Oh my GOD) HELP people with costumes all day. Isn't that what customer service is? Helping people? Maybe I have it all wrong.

Anyway, in my ever-polite manner, I tried to be friendly and nice about what we were doing. "We are just trying to put together her King Tut costume. She just HAD to be King Tut." Nervously overly happy giggle. She freaking pounced.

"She HAD to be King Tut?" Like we should have stopped her from being something intelligent? "Huh. Does she even know who King Tut is??"

Signa answered, "He's an Egyptian."

COWTM actually said then, "He wasn't even a king. He was
a PHAROAH. Did you even know that?" To Signa. She said this to Signa. I was contemplating murder when Marc very pointedly answered, "SHE IS THREE. THREE." We left quickly, but not before COWTM made it be known that her daughter was reading at three.

Bitch.

Signa has been playing with an imaginary cat named Nicky/Snicky- we aren't sure which, as it goes back and forth. She saves him and then carries him around in the palm of her hand for hours (Nicky is apparently very, very tiny). If it's time for her to eat, we have to hold Nicky for her. We were talking about this at a birthday party and said, "We don't know where she got this." And she answered, loudly, "I got it from PeeWee Herman!"

Lordy.

Yesterday was Halloween and after weeks of practicing saying Trick or Treat and Thank You, Signa froze at all the first few doors. After awhile, she was okay, but it did take several houses. Her King Tut costume was impeccable; Marc did a great job with making the headpiece and imagining the rest so that it actually worked.

We took her early to Paul and Beth's, as they were going out to dinner for Beth's birthday. We wanted to make sure they saw King Tut, since they've had to hear about it for months. Then we went home and had dinner before going out again.

I think she was funniest at Vince and Cathy's, where she just walked right in and started watching television. Candy? Who cares! They have a big-screen TV!

We took turns taking her out and this morning she told me, "I was scared at one" (held up one finger) "point. The ghost was making noise and it scared me." I just liked the "at one point" reference, as that is how Marc told me about it last night. So she overheard and repeated.

We must be so careful.

All in all, though, she had a great time. She ate 1/2 of a piece of candy and then said, "I'm done." So she definitely wasn't in it for the candy. It was all about the people. And the costume.

AWESOME costume, and perfect for her. And with such aplomb she handled the COW. Lovely Signa.
