2 Months
Yesterday was Will's 2-month doctor appointment. The new doctor, who I love, announced that our little man is perfect. I asked about his constant snorting and she asked if anything came out with the squeezy ball thing. I sheepishly said that I hadn't tried and she said, "Good. I don't like those things, either. He's fine." I asked about his colic and she said that he'll grow out of it. So nonchalant and calming. I love that. No drama, not recommending a zillion tests for no reason, etc. Just that some babies do that or are like that. She then said to go ahead and feed him as he was hungry, even though I know they were so backed up. I love that she's so pro-breastfeeding, but also that she's just so easy-going. My kind of doctor.
Baby Will's stats are 22 1/2 inches in length, 11 lbs, 9oz. in weight and a head circumference of 40. Basically, 50th percentile for weight and 25th for height.
About my little man, he just (this past week- thanks for teaching him, Marc!) started smiling a lot and cooing at us. He'll just grin and then say, "Ah goo!" and "Ah gee!" in response to anything you say. We play a game I call, Where Are You Going? He kicks his legs so much and flails his arms. I say, "Where are you going, Baby Man? To the grocery store?" "Ah-goo!!!!" "No, not the grocery store? Are you going to Target?" "Ah gooooo!" "Oh. Not the grocery store and not Target? Are you going to the (tickle) TOY STORE?!?!?!" "AH GEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" The smiles that used to (last week) be so hard to come by are now getting more spontaneous.
He is so cute. So darned cute. Even at 4am when he's been difficult all night.
Just like his big sister who is finally POTTY TRAINED!!! All it took was a day and a lie. And a ton of Littlest Pet Shop figures. But it's done and without too much bloodshed. She is getting so big. I look at her when she's sleeping and I can see what she will look like when she is older. It freaks me out and I hate that she's ALMOST FOUR. Can you believe it? We are going to start Kindergarten this September and see how it goes. She's really smart and ready to read, but just not so good with the writing part, so we need to work on that.
Today's Signa-ism:
Last week when Mr. Man was crying all day, Marc said, accidentally out loud, "I don't even really LIKE babies." (he doesn't, but he sure is good with them). Signa responded with her arms being thrown up in the air, "Why did we get a BABY!?!?!"

Our Vacation
I’ve been trying to write since we came back from our trip to Oregon, but with going back to work and everything, it’s just not happened.
We had a great, but short, trip to Oregon. We left on Wednesday and spent the night in Redding after a stop-off in Folsom to see Cindy, Paul, Conner and Deborah. We stayed in a hotel and got up early for swimming and then left for Oregon. In Oregon, we stayed in a hotel and swam daily. Sadly, Dad wasn’t feeling great, but we managed to have dinner Thursday and Friday in town with him and Molly and then on Saturday we went up to “the mountain”. We left for a bit to go visit a ranch with sheep and dogs and chickens and then went back up to play with the cats and have a barbecue. Sunday, Fathers’ Day, we had brunch in town (all you can eat--- they lost money on me that morning) and then went to a park to play. We said goodbye and rested for our long trip home the next day.
Signa is interrupting this to ask to tell her own story. I’ll transcribe below:
Signa had fun playing with the cats. I like picking up the cats and putting them in the right spot. The other black cat was scared of me. We went to Grampa and Gramma’s house. I fed those guys [sheep] and played with the dogs. The hotel was fun. We went swimming. I like the cats and Dinga.
I want to type all by myself. I wanna do it, Momma!
[here she goes]

Now back to our story.
We got home from our trip at about 10:30pm on Monday night and I started work on Tuesday morning. So far it’s going okay. For me. Poor Will screamed most of Friday for Marc. But all will be okay eventually.

Huge, Gigantic Update
I have some old notes that I've been keeping- just haven't posted. Here they are:
---
Wednesday, May 31
Guess who just went to the store with Marc with PANTIES on?
Nope. Not me or Will. SIGNA!!! Marc took her to Walmart last week to buy diapers and they happened to have only one bag of her size on the shelf. So he told her it was the last one Walmart had and that she'd have to switch to panties after it was gone. She's been eyeing that bag all week and even though there are still some left, she told him that she wanted panties after her bath this morning. I think she plans on saving the diapers for when she really pees (she doesn't normally pee now until after dinner), but hopefully they will just catch on.
So proud.
Will has been sleeping non-stop again today. He barely woke to nurse last night and today he's only been up for a total of maybe 20 minutes. Couple that with his intense gas and fussiness and you have a worried momma. But not worried enough to call the doctor. At least not yet. Since he's approaching 6 weeks, I assume it is another growth spurt he's gearing up towards.
All in all, though. I cannot believe how much easier he is than Signa was. And you all know how much I adore Signa and was worried I wouldn't feel as close to a boy, right? It so isn't true. I am so in awe and so in love with this little man. He is just so wonderful. I'm so glad I don't have to feel distant or weird because he isn't a she.
(later in the day)
So after a super fussy, worrying day, Will suddenly was in a really good mood. I had him in my lap and grabbed the camera to take some close-ups and Signa ran over to "help" (aka be super jealous and get in on the action). We were making him clap his hands together and both saying, "Yay!" in that stupid high pitched baby talk voice and he smiled. A real smile without vomit or poop following. I even got it on film. The picture is kinda weird because I took it from an odd angle, but you'll get the idea.
Signa was overjoyed. Still in her Big Girl Underpants.

Monday, June 5
We had Will's welcome party yesterday at my mom's. All my aunts and cousins and Anne and Earlyne. Will was perfectly behaved, falling asleep in everyone's arms. I worried that he'd not sleep last night, but he was only up twice for nursing. He's asleep in his little basket next to me now.
He's had three nights in a row of major fussing, though. I'd almost say colic, but it only lasts a couple hours and I think colic is for a really long time (although a couple hours FEELS like a really long time). I also thought it was time-related, since for two nights it was at 8pm, but last night we didn't get home until nearly 9:30, so I think it's Big Meal related. He nurses for a long time right before bed- and right before these attacks. Mylecon does nothing, so I think maybe I need to change my diet, but not sure how willing I am. Sad, I know, but it's hard enough to remember to eat, much less make it the RIGHT eat.
He still doesn't smile or laugh spontaneously- only at my clapping his hands together and saying, Yay. I know it's coming, though. Today is my 6-week doctor appt. I can't wait to see if I can finally take a bath instead of a shower and if I can take Signa swimming. She will be thrilled if I can!

Tuesday, June 6
Yesterday I had my doctor appt and I'm cleared for all normal activity. Yay! I can bathe (in the tub), swim, and exercise! I'm so very happy. I also went to the lactation center and got a hands-free bra to use with my new electric pump and got instructions on how to use it. I am going to try it out tonight. I'm so excited about all of it!
I was also a bit worried, as Will spits up A LOT. I figured I have a couple weeks to force-feed him through the night if he wasn't gaining like he was supposed to for the doctor's joy (I *KNOW* he's okay, but I just didn't want to argue it with the doctor. So at 3 weeks he was 8lbs, 4oz. By yesterday (6 weeks), he should have gained between 10 and 21oz (1/2 to one oz/day). He was 10lbs, 8oz, so gained THIRTY SIX OUNCES!!!
No more worrying here.
We then went to my work and I faxed some things and then Will and I went to Babies R Us where we got too many things. But I had some Will Money to spend on him, so I don't feel bad about it.
Anyway, that was yesterday. Today we went to the park for a picnic with Tim- our old friend who introduced Marc and me. He lives in Alabama now and was out for a visit with his daughters. We had a nice afternoon visiting and it feels like he's always just been here. One of those friends where it doesn't matter how long you go without seeing- still comfortable.

We've had a busy week. Wednesday we went to the mall for new shoes for Signa and then just shopping. Signa had her soccer class (she's following directions a bit more, but I still wish I hadn't put her in this class).
Thursday we went to the zoo with our homeschool group. Will stayed in the sling the whole day, so the stroller is just really for holding all the accoutrements. Signa had fun at the children's zoo and watching the baby giraffe run amuck in his area.
Yesterday was our first full day without diapers. She had an accident the night before in her underpants on the floor and then yesterday morning didn't go at all. Her normal routine is to pee in the morning and she held it, which worried us at the rodeo all morning. The rodeo was neat, because there were horses everywhere and cowboys. We watched the barrel racing portion and then left and went to Charlie and Jake's house. They played for a little while and we kept taking Signa to the potty. She finally went (at someone else's house! WONDERFUL!).
We then left to go to Bethany's house to practice the dance for Sunday's recital. Signa had a great time playing with Bethany and her sister and brother and now says that Bethany is her "favorite girl." She also pooped at Bethany's house in the little potty. Majorly proud! After that, she peed at home twice with no accidents (crossing fingers)
In Will news, it seems that his fussy time is getting shorter and easier to handle. It could just be temporarily so, but we'll see. He's getting cuter and cuter each day and is such a good baby. He has held his head up so strong and nice since just about his second week or so. I forget sometimes that he's not supposed to be so strong.
He sleeps so much better than Signa did. He has a great routine where he crashes at about 8pm and sleeps in the cosleeper on the third try of putting him in there. Three every time. Then he sleeps until about 12am and nurses and goes right back to sleep in his cosleeper (on the third try). Then he's up between 3am and 4am and sleeps in the bed from then until 7am when he nurses and then sleeps in the swing until 10am. Then he catnaps the rest of the day. We drag him around wherever we go and he will Always sleep in the sling. The sling is our best friend.

Saturday after dance class, we went and visited George and Tory and their three boys. Signa had a blast playing with them and their bugs and skeletons. We had a nice dinner and then came home late. It was fun to see them again and not be awkward over not seeing them in so long. Just picked up where we left off!
Yesterday was Signa's dance recital. Although she didn't follow all the directions or do all the dance steps, she will always be remembered in that show; she ran out at the end and grabbed another little girl who was frozen with fear and dragged her off the stage. All while smiling the patented huge Signa smile. She may not have been a great dancer, but she got the biggest laugh, I think.
Today Marc was going to take Signa to see Cars, but she is having a grumpy, bad attitude day so that was taken away from her. Maybe tomorrow.
Oh, still no accidents and still pee peeing and pooping on the potty! WOO HOO!!!

Now for the Signa-isms…
Silly Words
She mentioned that she'd need to use some "San Siza Tizer." Say it out loud and I think you'll also figure out that she meant, "Hand Sanitizer". She just said, "San Siza Tizer" so securely like she was just so sure of herself in knowing it was right.
I said something yesterday and Signa's response was, "You can say that again." It was just weird to hear coming from her.
Silly Phrases
In celebration of her pee-pee on the potty accomplishments, we went to Target to get a bag of plastic bugs (she gets one each time she uses the potty). There was only one bag left, so we got it. While walking away holding the bag, Signa was explaining, "This is the last bag of bugs. There used to be more bags, but other kids got those bags for pee-pee on the potty. Then- BOOM- all the bugs are gone."
Also in celebration of pee-pee on the potty accomplishments, we went out to dinner at our pizza place. Halfway through dinner, Signa says, "I wish I had a menu." We asked why she wanted a menu and she said, like we were idiots, "Because I need to have a menu for dessert!"
Looking at Will on the floor, Signa says, "He sure has a small body and a big head, doesn't he?" Then today she said, "He's so very tiny." I thought it was beautiful and then she said, "I could get my nagafying glass or my noculars and he will be BIG!"
While driving the other day, someone let us go or something and Signa says from the backseat, "Thanks, Holmes." Just like Daddy does.
She also kept calling the Rodeo a "Studio". "I love the Studio. It was fun!"
For the past couple of months, Firefly the Cricket has been following us around. He is pretend (Signa announced), but still ends up everywhere. "Hey! Look! It's Firefly the Cricket! He followed us here!!! Come on, Firefly the Cricket! Don't get lost. Stay right here by me." Then she goes on and on about him. Yesterday, I said something about a cricket and if it were her beloved Firefly and she said, "Firefly the Cricket is a BUTTERFLY." Again, like I am stupid.
Imagine hearing, "Looks like there is an elephant stuck in the drain," from the tub. And there was.
Touching and Moving
After Signa's horrible performance at the first dress rehearsal for her Little Tap Shoes dance recital, we brought her home and punished her by taking all her toys away for 24 hours. We made her pack up all the toys from the train table into a laundry basket. She was very subdued and quiet, but we still heard her when she picked up her Seymour the Spider and placed him gently in the basket. "Goodbye, Seymour." Yes, we felt terrible and yes, I had a tear.
Embarrassing Moments
In the doctor's office, a lady came in with her daughter. Signa asked VERY LOUDLY, "Wow. She has painted eyebrows. Why does she have painted eyebrows, Momma? Look, her eyebrows are all painted. See? Why are they all painted?" On and on. And yes, they were quite painted.
