Rock and Roll

The weekend was a nice fun, boring one. Saturday morning, Mom came to babysit Signa while we went to a baby signs class. It was a fun class and will be a novelty to get a glimpse into Will's head before he can talk. Without the Eh Eh Eh and pointing that Signa did so much of. Or maybe with that, but also hand signals. I don't know. It just sounds sorta cool.

After that, Mom and Will and I went to Walmart to find some fabric for a baby wrap. Sadly, it was the same lady from the King Tut Costume Day (see below) and so I got angry and frustrated and just left and complained to management. We then went to a fabric shop where I found the perfect fabric for only $2 a yard and made a beautiful baby wrap ala wearyourbaby.com for only $10. And I even used it for the afternoon, which surprised me that I didn't need more classes and maps and charts and someone to just do it for me.

Yesterday we went back to Walmart for a bench swing for the front yard. Ahhhh. So nice to sit out there and rock. Anyway, that's it for the boring weekend that was nice, so I'll now entertain you with links. The first is just my all-time favorite. The second is political, so view at your own risk if you enjoy our current President.

And now for today's Signa-ism:

Praying

I went to a baby carrier class yesterday and learned so much. I'm going to make a wrap and I just ordered a mei tai. Will was a trouper all afternoon, getting in and out of carriers while I decided what I liked best. This place is so cool- a total natural, hippy kind of place, but it has a ton of stuff that I currently use, but have to order online. So even though it's a bit of a trek out there to Lafayette, it's cheaper than shipping and also allowed me to see a bunch of things that I've only read about. They also do classes, which is more than cool. This weekend we are taking a baby signs class there. I'm excited to learn how, as I think it will be a cool novelty when Will gets bigger.

And now for today's Signa-ism:

We had dinner with Signa's friend, Bethany, and her family last night. As I began to eat, I felt these tiny eyes on me. I looked to my right and there is Bethany, hands folded, staring at me. "Oh!" I say. "You want to say a prayer. Ooooo-kay." And I folded my hands, too.

She says that she wants me to do it and I explain that I really don't have a clue how so she'll need to do it for me. Then she says she wants us all to hold hands, which we do. I hold her hand and Marc's. Marc also holds Signa's and Signa's got Bethany's momma and Bethany's momma has Bethany, too. All in a circle holding hands.

Beth then says she wants Signa to do it. We begin to explain that Signa doesn't know how and I see Signa go from confused to being very sure of herself. Then I hear, in a confident strong voice from my girl, "Ring around the rosies, pocket full of posies. Ashes ashes all fall down."

Amen.

Rambling

Flash Gordon features a part, evidently, where this guy's eyes pop out and the music goes, "HEHHHHHHHHH!" Signa demonstrates it as best as she can, but informed us earlier that Marc can't do the eye popping part because he is "not died."

Hurray for being not died!

She is super chatty tonight and totally cracking me up. She informed me a bit ago that the game we checked out from the library is "Super Crappy."

Will is asleep. He likes to take a nap before bed. 45 minutes to an hour and then he wakes me up and freaks me out because he's bound to be up for HOURS and HOURS because that is what Signa did. But instead he plays for 10 or 15 minutes and then screams bloody murder until I remember that he's tired and I lay down with him and he goes right to sleep again. So different from Signa.

I got a gift certificate for a massage, manicure and pedicure for my birthday and I am already coveting when I get to use it. I cannot wait to go and get all pampered. Ahhhh...

Nick and Dime

Yesterday was Will's 3-month birthday. I can't believe he's already three months old. Yikes. Another weird thing about kid #2 vs. kid #1 is that with Signa I measured her in weeks and I can't seem to keep up with Will in weeks. So regardless of how many weeks he is (12 or 13? Something like that), he's doing great. His I-hate-you hours are dwindling and he is becoming Super Smiley Man. He smiles so much easier than Signa did at this age and he is starting to laugh, but mostly just for Marc. He's now laughed twice for me and I feel like God when he does. Will is also (thankfully) so good about being carted all over the place and he's just so darned beautiful that it takes my breath away.

Signa is doing great, too. She still needs her nap in the afternoon, but with things going on every day she usually doesn't get one. She has been being a bit obsessive compulsive lately with rules and neatness, which I'm sure it's a control thing due to Will being here, etc., but we have to nip it or she will become Mr. Monk.

Anyway, if you tell her a rule, she will expect it to be true forever and always. We had spaghetti for dinner the other night and she decided not to eat. We have a rule that she doesn't have to eat anything, but she has to sit with us quietly until we are all done and then there is no dessert and no snacking later. She pushed her plate away and that was fine, but we reminded her of the rules. A while later as we are sitting there, Marc remembered the green beans in the microwave and offered them to her. She freaked out- "I can't have a snack or dessert because I didn't eat my dinner!!! You said no snacks or desserts!!!!" On and on and on.

She has also been adorable in her usual Signa ways and everywhere we go, someone knows her from somewhere. She's very memorable for her name and her attitude and smile!!! Moms always stop me and ask, does she ever stop smiling? And really, she doesn't. Not only is she always smiling, but she constantly makes Marc and me outright laugh. The other morning we were watching Superman and she dramatically says, "Did you see that? Superman saved her just in the NICK AND DIME!" She is also really loving the zillions of toads we have in our back yard. Every night she and Marc go out there and she plays with the toads while Marc waters. The other night as he is watering, he hears her singing and then she says, "Look, Daddy! I'm dancing with the toad!" He looks and she's holding this little guy ever-so-gently by his arms and twirling his arms between her fingers so that he's spinning in circles upside down. He is fine so please don't call the animal police on us.

Saturday (my 39th birthday!) we went to the 25-year reunion of my 8th grade. Sounds stupid, but these people I went to preschool on with and then we dispersed to separate high schools. High school was just 3 years and I didn't even hang out with anyone from high school, so these folks were far more important. It was a great day (albeit HOT!!!) and I had so much fun seeing them again. I was surprised that there were a ton of babies and little kids. They all waited to have kids, too, I guess. I was also surprised at how the women hadn't changed much- I still knew it was them- but the men were totally not recognizable at all. After the reunion, we went to my old town and visited Kris' dad and then drove by my old house that I grew up in. I moved from there with Marc when I was 18, but it still seemed so much smaller than how I remember it. So odd. I miss that place. If we win 8 lotteries, we are going to move back to that area. (note that one lottery winning would not cut it, as it's so freaking expensive).

Sunday I met Mom at the mall for lunch and she brought my nephew. Since we had all her grandkids there, we went and bought them matching shirts and then had pictures done. We got a set of the three of them and then of just my 2 and now I have a professional picture of my two children on my desk at work and I feel like running home every 2.1 seconds to see them.

Then I remember nursing every 27 minutes all night long and think that maybe I can make it until later to see them…

Today's Signa-ism:
We were talking about something that we did and Signa asked if it was when she was a baby. We said that it was before she was born and she says, "Oh, so it was when I was dead?"

Snapping the Fish

So pictures are now on Snapfish. You should have got an email with a link to April, May and June, but if you didn't let me know and I'll shoot you the email. I understand you have to sign into Snapfish to see them, but it's a harmless, spam-filled process, I'm sure.

It's just so much easier for me to upload and not have to resize and reformat all of them and then upload again to Snapfish when I'm ready to print them. I hope you understand.

I do, however, have a picture to share here. It's the one of Signa at her dance recital "helping" the little girl off the stage.

S.O.S.!

And here is one of her on stage:

It's all about Signa

Yesterday on the way home from the library, we were driving through town and there was a band on the street corner. We reminisced Christmas, when there was a parade through town and Signa announced, "I remember that! That Christmas parade was sooooo paradial!"

"Paradial" is the new adjective. It means, "Extremely parade-like."

UPDATE: I originally had "parade-y", but Marc reminded me it was "paradial".

Arrrrrrrr, I've Got a Telescope

Yesterday was a big day! Baby WIll LAUGHED! A true giggle and guffah! I guess he does it during the week for Marc, but I diidn't know this and saw it for the first time yesterday. What a joy. I love baby smiles and laughs because they inherently can't be fake; it's the truest happy that can be. And I made it happen. Talk about feeling like Superwoman.

Yesterday I also took Signa to the swimming pool. As we got into the car to come home, she grabbed a toy off the backseat- a skeleton telescope from McDonald's. I went around and got into the front seat and I just before turning the key, I heard in a deep voice from the backseat, "Arrrrrrrr, I've got a telescope. Arrrrrrr." My Little Miss Pirate.

When we got home from the pool, we were discussing the wonderfulness of having eachother to swim with. I said, "I love swimming with you, Mrs. Magilicutty. Before you came along, I didn't have anyone to swim with."

She responded, "And now you are happy because you have me- a little girl- to swim with."

"Yep, I sure am."

"And I'm happy, too, Momma," (she hugs me with one hand) "because I have this toy helicopter." And she raced off to save the stuck mamoth with her toy helicopter that was in the other hand. And here I thought I was going to get some love.

I Choose Chinese

This was a fun weekend for me. I took the kids for the weekend and Marc had some much-deserved time off. Will has been cranky all week and I know it was very hard to deal with, so it was good that I had lots of plans for the kids anyway. Plus, Diane and Michael had their shindig Saturday night and it was too late for me, so Marc had a place to go with friends.

Anyway, Saturday I took Signa to her dance class and then we went to a birthday party. After a quick nap, we went to Chinese food. I'd told Signa to choose any place she wanted for lunch and she thought about it and said, "I choose Chinese." The three of us trekked to our favorite restaurant and both kids were very well-behaved. Will only had to nurse for a bit and the rest of the time sat quietly cooing in the car seat next to me. Signa and I had tea in the tiny cups and she ate a whole order of pot stickers (minus the insides) and some lemon chicken. All of it was perfect.

As we were leaving, though, the older man who was our waiter held the door open for us and said, "See you next time." Signa responded, "No. I think next time I'm going to choose McDonald's."

Really, what do you say to that?!?!

Sunday was Deborah's fifth birthday party in Sacramento. Marc didn't get home until really late so we tried to sneak out in the morning without waking him. Sadly, he woke right before we were leaving (because Signa was yelling about how no one could reach her rubber komodo dragon that we put on top of the shelf so Jones2 won't eat it). Anyway, Deborah's party was great- a fairy princess tea party with swimming and games. Signa had a blast and now we are rethinking not having a party for her this year.

I took today off because I thought I'd be really tired after the trip yesterday. And I was right. I slept late this morning and it felt so good. I have to clean up the kitchen and fold and put away laundry, but other than that, I'm just going to try to take Signa swimming today and just relax.

Today's Signa-ism:
The I-choose-McDonald's thing is really it, but I have to get this one down, because it's just so cute. On July 4, Signa found the lid to a potato salad container and asked me, "WOW! This is so cool! Can I have this?" I told her to knock herself out. What a weird kid.

A few days later, I saw it amongst her bath toys and Marc has told me that it is her lily pad for the frogs. So cute.

World's Greatest Brother

Independence Day was fun- friends came over and we ate and drank and were merry. I know that Signa did some cute things that were Ism worthy, but I can't remember them now. Sadly. Sorry kids, Momma can't remember unless she writes it down. And she didn't. I have some old Isms, though, for the end of the post.

We had a garage sale this past weekend and managed to get rid of a bunch of crap in 107 degree temperatures. And we even made a bit of money doing it, too. Which we promptly spent on dinner and toys. But really, Signa did need a cash register. NEEDed it, because we wanted to play store and you really can't do that without a cash register.

Our big news this month is due to my World's Greatest Brother. For four years now, we've shared a car. And it's tough to get in and out of with two small children. But we planned on maybe working on getting another vehicle the year after next. But World's Greatest Brother bought us a minivan. He tried to tell me it was a good investment, but really I know that he is just the World's Greatest Brother.

We had a scare with the Millennium Falcon (our new minivan's name) this past weekend, but it's all fixed now. There are some other things that need to be done, but you cannot imagine how awesome it is to have the freedom that two cars allows AND have it be something not requiring back surgeries to get in and out of.

Ahhhhhh…

I'm working on the pictures. I'm changing how I do it, so experimentation is taking up a ton of time. I should have through May done by tomorrow, I hope.

Will is just so darned cute. He sleeps really well at night and he is getting slightly less cranky during the rest of the time. He already talks back (not in a bad way). I can say, "Ah- goo!" and he'll smile and do it right back. Only works with "Ah- goo!" and "Ah-gee," though... His smile is just too contageous and even though he's Mr. Grumpmiser, when he's happy, he's really, really happy.

Today's Signa-ism (from May):
While sounding out letters in words, Signa announced that, "bake has a silent 'e'". Freaked us right the heck out.

Some People Pray

We went to a fun family party on Saturday for my cousin's anniversary. It was a nice afternoon in the backyard with my cousins and mom and aunt. Everyone knows we aren't at all religious, so Signa has no experience with praying, but they had a prayer before the meal and this happened to be just after Signa had her face painted and was going to the backyard--- where the prayer was--- from the front yard to show Marc. As we walked out the sliding glass door, all sound stopped while their prayer leader said the prayer. This was, of course, also the point where Signa's face rubbed up on her arm and The End of The World came.

"I GOT MY PAINT ON MY ARM!!! PLEASE GET IT OFF!!!" I shushed her and pulled her back inside to explain prayer. "Some people pray before meals and we need to be quiet when they do."

I then shushed her again when she tried to ask more questions and she said, "But why do we have to be QUIET? We are not in a movie theater!"

Not sure the humor of this comes across in writing, but Marc and I thought it was hilarous.
