Octopus
So at last writing, our girl turned 5. Her birthday was very complicated this year, with it being a Tuesday and her party being the next Sunday at her gymnastics place. We tried to make her actual birthday special, so I took the day off and we went to the Egyptian museum in San Jose (she is studying ancient Egypt for school right now).
We had a great time and got some study materials in the gift shop, but she seemed so sad and I couldn't figure out why. I finally got it out of her and she thought all her friends were going to be at the museum for her party. She said, "All my other friends have parties for their birthdays and their friends come. Don't my friends even like me to come to my party?"
Poor girl. All was well when we explained she still had another birthday celebration coming up. Which, by the way went fine. All I had to do was bring forks and juice boxes, since the cake was from our neighbor and I ordered the napkins, etc. Guess what I forgot? Juice boxes (Mom ran and got some before the party) and forks. Nice. Some ate with their hands and others got some forks from the gymnastics place.
Way to go, Momma! Screwing up the parties after only 5 years! WOO HOO!!! Luckily kids really don't care about forks anyway. And they liked the hour of gymnastics.
Let's see… what else… Oh. For her birthday, we gave her a fish tank and then she got to pick out what to put in it. She picked a snail named Blueberry (may he rest in peace), a frog named Kermit (may he also rest in peace), a fish named Blackie (may he complete this slow painful death he's currently experiencing and just rest in peace) and then another fish named Bubblegum who seems to be doing just fine, despite the apparent death trap he's apparently swimming in. I've no idea how we killed them all so quickly, but we are just really awesome I guess.
William is a riot. He says so many words and does so many cute things. He made his first piece of art yesterday that I hung on the wall. All day he kept going up to it and pointing. And if you mentioned "pretty picture" he would run to it pointing. And before you think he's super brilliant and amazing, he also is in the habit of putting his feet on the table and shoving his food into his eyes and ears when he's done. And calling both Marc and me "Momma".
I wanted to share this piece of artwork/philosophy from Signa. She drew a picture that looks kinda like a person with a sun above with a circle around it.
Now, one would think, if one were just using their own point of view, that this was the typical kid drawing of a person and the sun. However, if one took into account the point of view of someone else, say a certain five-year-old, one might find out that this was actually a picture of (and I quote), "A guy who is thinking that when he grows up he wants to be an octopus."
The moral? Never forget to take other people's point of view into account when making a judgment.
