Too Busy for Anything but 'Isms...

Signa. While watching American Idol last week, two girls that I liked were up last for dismissal. I angrily said something about it and Signa asked why they had to go home. I answered, "Because America is just stupid!" Signa agreed, "Yeah, and it's all George Bush's fault!"

---

William. Will wakes up at night to nurse, but his little mind and body is so tired that he can't speak well. He sounds like he is requesting his dying wish. "beee... boe" and then a sigh, with the sound of exhaustion from just uttering the word.

---

Signa. Driving through the Target parking lot, some lady cut them off. Marc said, "Idiot" and Signa responded, "Dummy." They went back and forth with this silly funny stuff for a bit. Signa said, "Marshmallow head." Then Marc said, "Stinky butt." Then Signa came out with, "BITCH!"

And the best part is that she said she learned that word from Daddy.

---

William. At Signa's history group, I was watching Will, while Marc did a project with Signa. Will grabbed this stick thing and I took it from him and said that he couldn't play with it in the house. He grumped at me and grabbed it again. I again scolded him and explained that he couldn't have it. He shouted at me and grabbed it again, all while scowling at me and making eye contact.

I took it from him again and gave him a time out on the sofa. I told him he could get down when he apologized to me. (keep in mind he will be 2 in April). "No torry, Momma!" he yelled at me. So I told him fine and that he could keep sitting there. He kept yelling at me and fake crying and I just sat there reading something pretending to ignore him, secretly patting myself on the back because he didn't try to get up. "Are you ready to say you are sorry?" "NO! No torry Momma!!!" Signa came in to see why I was murdering her brother and after I told her the details, she said, "Will, you should say sorry to Momma."

William stood and lovingly looked at his sister and said, "Torry, Sister."

Then she said, "No, say sorry to MOMMA."

"NO! NO TORRY MOMMA!" And he grumped his butt back down on the sofa. I know this sort of story will become a non-story, but really... from a 1-year-old?!??!

Let's Go Birding, You and Me is a beautifully written and illustrated book by Anne Creevy, a dear friend and a former school teacher. It is about a grandmother and granddaughter going birding right in their own neighborhood, and it uses repetitive and descriptive language that is very well suited for children ages 4 to 8. To learn more about it and/or to order it, go to Anne's website: Annecreevy.com.
